I love to break down a building into smaller forms which are clearly seperated but linked together.
Whether the form's have a gabled, monopitch or low pitch roof, I like the link roof to be lower than the adjacent forms.
The trick of joining the form's with a glass box is not new. I think this is because it works so well. Glass is especially good when the cladding runs through the link.
Buildings are often clad in beautiful material and these may not be seen inside looking out. Bringing exterior materials inside allows them to be enjoyed when passing through the link.
The ABODO cladding is band saw outside to allow it to hold stain. Inside is a brushed finish which gives a different texture but also a sheen.
I have combined shiplap timber weatherboards with vertical corrugated steel. The rich brown of the wood sits well with the light grey Colorsteel. The corrugate has been used on the west, south and east faces which cannot be seen from inside. This gives the owner less timber to restain. The north face and any face seen from inside is timber.
If you are thinking if building a high performance home using beautiful materials come and talk to me.
